Step-by-Step Admission Process

1. Go to the official IGNOU admission portal: ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in
2. Create your ABC ID (Academic Bank of Credits / APAAR ID) via DigiLocker, then use it to generate your DEB ID (Distance Education Bureau ID) on the UGC-DEB portal at deb.ugc.ac.in — both are mandatory before your admission form can be validated. Start this at least a week before the deadline; ABC-to-DEB linking can take 48–72 hours to verify
3. Click on "New Registration" and create your username and password using a valid email ID and mobile number
4. Log in and select Master's Degree Programmes → MAEC — Master of Arts (Economics)
5. Fill in your personal, educational, and category details carefully, including your ABC ID and DEB ID, and choose your medium of study (English or Hindi)
6. Upload scanned copies of required documents: final Bachelor's degree/provisional certificate and marksheets, ID proof, address proof, passport-size photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable)
7. Pay the fee online (₹9,500 programme fee + ₹300 registration fee + ~₹200 development fee for fresh admission)
8. Download and save the confirmation/receipt page for future reference
9. Check your admission status on the portal — your Enrolment Number will be generated once admission is confirmed

Exam Pattern & Passing Criteria

• You must pass both the assignment and the TEE separately for each course — a high TEE score cannot compensate for a failed assignment, and vice versa. This 40% threshold (rather than 35%) applies because MAEC is a Master's-level programme; IGNOU's UG passing mark is lower, at 35%.
• Assignments must be handwritten and submitted at your Study Centre before you can appear for the TEE in that course; keep a photocopy and the acknowledgement receipt.
• TEE is conducted twice a year — in June and December.
• Answer your TEE in the same medium (English or Hindi) you selected while filling the exam form — mismatched-language answer scripts are not evaluated.
• There is no negative marking in IGNOU TEEs.
• If you fail a course, you can reappear in any subsequent TEE cycle within your programme's maximum duration (4 years), with no limit on the number of attempts within that window.
• Project Work (MECP-201/MECP-202) is evaluated through a Project Report plus a viva voce, not a written TEE; the project proposal must be approved by the Faculty of Economics at IGNOU Headquarters before you start writing the full report.
