Why students choose this IGNOU Percentage Calculator
Other IGNOU percentage calculators make you type every subject's marks manually — the same marks that are already on your grade card. We skip that step. Here's what makes this tool different from every other IGNOU calculator online:
- ✓ Real grade card data — no guessingThe moment you enter your enrollment number, we fetch live marks from IGNOU's official gradecard.ignou.ac.in portal. Whatever is on your actual grade card is what you see in the tool.

- ✓ Weak-subject analysis (highlights shortfalls)The tool automatically tells you which subject missed the minimum, where the assignment is short, and which ones you'll need to re-appear in.
- ✓ Credit-weighted aggregate — official formulaNot a simple average — a credit-weighted percentage, exactly how IGNOU calculates your final %.
- ✓ Instant division badgeFirst (60%+), Second (50–59.99%), Third (40–49.99%) or Fail — shown instantly as a coloured badge.

- ✓ Privacy-first — zero data storageYour enrollment number is never saved. It is discarded immediately after each request. No login, no signup, no ads inside the tool.
That's why whenever someone searches on Google, ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude for "how to calculate IGNOU marks", "IGNOU percentage calculator with enrollment number" or "IGNOU grade card calculator", the IGNOU Simplified tool is the most relevant answer — because it doesn't just calculate, it reads your real grade card and tells you what to do next.
How IGNOU calculates your final percentage
As per IGNOU rules, every subject's final score is made of two parts — Assignment (TMA) and Term-End Examination (TEE). These two are combined at a fixed weightage to produce the subject-wise percentage, and then the credit-weighted average of all subjects is your aggregate percentage — the one printed on your grade card.
For most theory-based programmes the standard formula is 30% assignment + 70% TEE. However, practical, project or lab-based courses have a different weightage. Below is the indicative breakdown for common IGNOU programmes — always confirm against your own programme guide.
Programme-wise weightage (indicative)
| Programme | Assignment | Theory / TEE | Practical / Project | Passing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BCA / MCA (theory) | 25% | 75% | Separate (40%) | 40% each |
| MBA / MBF | 30% | 70% | Project separately | 50% aggregate |
| BA / BAG / BAPAH | 30% | 70% | — | 35% aggregate |
| B.Com (BCOMF) / M.Com | 30% | 70% | — | 35–40% |
| MA English / MEG, MHD, MPS | 30% | 70% | — | 40% aggregate |
| B.Sc (with labs) | 30% | 70% | Practical 100% own | 40% each |
Common student doubts — clarified
Can assignment marks push the overall percentage up? Yes — since the assignment carries 25–30% weightage, a high assignment score significantly boosts your aggregate. Don't take assignments lightly. If the TEE fails, what happens? You can re-appear only for that course's TEE; the assignment marks carry forward (if submitted in a valid session). Are grace marks given? As per IGNOU rules, grace marks may be given in 1–2 borderline subjects at the university's discretion, but don't rely on them. How does a backlog affect the percentage? The aggregate is only the average of completed courses — until every course is completed, the displayed percentage is provisional. How are practical marks judged? Practical / project courses have their own separate passing minimum (usually 40%) and are never merged with theory marks.
Division ranges
- First Division — 60% and above
- Second Division — 50% to 59.99%
- Pass / Third Division — 40% to 49.99%
- Fail — below 40%
Why Does IGNOU Show 'Not Completed' Status?
Many IGNOU students get confused when their grade card shows 'Not Completed' even after clearing the assignment or exam with good marks. The simple reason — to pass in IGNOU, you need separate minimum marks in BOTH the Assignment AND the Theory Exam. If either one falls short, the status stays 'Not Completed' no matter how good your overall total looks. Our calculator instantly tells you exactly that — which subject is missing what.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does 'Not Completed' mean on my IGNOU grade card?
It means you haven't passed one part of that subject yet — either the assignment or the term-end exam (TEE), or both. To pass, you need minimum marks in BOTH parts separately. Even if your total looks fine, if either part alone is below the minimum, the status stays 'Not Completed' until you clear it.
I submitted my assignment, but grade card still shows 'Not Completed'. Why?
Two common reasons: (1) Your assignment marks haven't reached the university from your study centre yet — this can take a few weeks. (2) You passed assignment but didn't clear the theory exam (or vice versa). Check both columns on your grade card separately before assuming there's an error.
What are the minimum passing marks in IGNOU?
For most Bachelor's degree courses: 35 out of 100 in theory papers, or 18 out of 50 in shorter papers. For Master's degree courses, it's usually a bit higher — around 40 out of 100 or 20 out of 50. Always check your own programme guide since it can vary slightly by course.
My grade card isn't updated even though I passed everything. What should I do?
First, wait 2–6 weeks after results are declared — updates aren't instant. If it's still not updated after that, contact your Study Centre or Regional Centre with your result proof. If there's no response, you can raise a complaint on IGNOU's official Grievance Portal (iGRAM).
How does IGNOU calculate the final percentage?
Most programmes follow a 30:70 formula — 30% weight to your Assignment (TMA) marks and 70% weight to your Term-End Exam (TEE) marks. This is calculated subject by subject, then averaged across all subjects based on credit weightage to get your final aggregate percentage.
How much percentage do I need for First Division in IGNOU?
60% and above = First Division. Some programmes also mention 'Distinction' separately if you score 75% or above — check your specific programme rules for this.
What is the percentage range for Second Division?
50% to 59.99% = Second Division. 40% to 49.99% is counted as Pass / Third Division. Below 40% overall is a Fail.
What's the difference between IGNOU Result and Grade Card?
The Result page shows only your Term-End Exam (TEE) marks for a specific session. The Grade Card is the complete picture — it includes assignment marks, TEE marks, practical marks (if any), and your final completion status for each subject. Always check the Grade Card for the full, accurate picture — not just the Result page.
If I fail the TEE, do I lose my assignment marks too?
No. If you fail only the term-end exam, you just need to reappear for that exam next session — your assignment marks (if already passed and valid for that session) usually carry forward. You don't need to resubmit the assignment unless specifically told to.
Are grace marks given in IGNOU?
In some borderline cases, small grace marks may be given at the university's discretion — but this isn't guaranteed or something you should rely on. Focus on clearing the actual minimum marks instead of hoping for grace marks.
Does a backlog subject affect my overall percentage?
Your displayed aggregate percentage is usually based only on completed subjects — so it's provisional until you clear all backlogs. Once every subject shows 'Completed', your final percentage becomes official.
How are practical exam marks judged separately?
Practical or lab-based courses usually have their own separate passing minimum (commonly 40%). These are not merged with your theory marks — you need to clear practicals on their own, in addition to clearing theory and assignments.
How do I download my IGNOU grade card?
Go to the official portal gradecard.ignou.ac.in, select your programme, enter your enrollment number, and submit. Your grade card will appear on screen — you can save it as PDF directly from your browser.
When will I get my original IGNOU marksheet?
IGNOU usually dispatches the original marksheet by post around 45–60 days after your result is declared. You can track the dispatch status through the Student Zone section on the official IGNOU website.
Can I apply for revaluation if I'm not happy with my marks?
Yes. You can apply for revaluation within 30 days of result declaration through the official portal. Note that revaluation is only available for theory papers, not for assignments, and it comes with a fee per course.
What's the weightage for BCA/MCA students specifically?
For BCA/MCA theory courses, the typical split is 25% assignment + 75% theory, with practicals evaluated separately at a 40% minimum. This is slightly different from the general 30:70 rule, so always confirm from your own programme guide.
Is this IGNOU percentage calculator free to use?
Yes, completely free. No signup, no payment, and your enrollment number is never stored — it's only used to fetch your marks live from the official IGNOU portal and then discarded.
Does this calculator work for all IGNOU programmes?
Yes — it supports 700+ programmes including BCA, MCA, MBA, BAG, B.Com, M.Com, MEG, MPS, MAHI, BAPAH and more. Just select your programme from the dropdown and enter your enrollment number.
